Description

Snowy owls spend most of the year in the cold Arctic tundra. These Owls are an “irruptive” species. This means that if conditions change in their typical range, a large number of them wander and become nomadic. Around Thanksgiving time this year, I started to see sighting reports of these owls in northern states of the US. I made my travel plan to New York last week and started my search on the seashore of Fire Island after I landed. It took me over 2 miles searching on the sandy beach to eventually see the owl after its breakfast. Seeing a snowy owl is a stunning and memorable experience.
